The event, organised by Sandy Secondary School, will see students sleeping outdoors for one night, equipped with only sleeping bags and cardboard boxes for comfort. The goal of the Sleep Out is to raise money and awareness for Amicus Trust, a charity dedicated to providing supported accommodation for individuals experiencing homelessness, which has local projects supporting up to 60 individuals in the Sandy and Biggleswade areas.
"We wanted to do something impactful and really experience, even just for a night, what it might be like for those who don’t have a home," said Mr Davis, who organised the event.. "We’re incredibly proud of our students for taking part in this initiative to raise awareness about homelessness. This is a great opportunity for them to step outside their comfort zones while learning about the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and how we can all help make a difference."
In the weeks leading up to the event, students have been gathering sponsorships from friends and family. The funds raised will directly support Amicus Trust’s mission to provide safe accommodation and vital services for those in need.
Amicus Trust has expressed their gratitude for the students’ efforts with CEO, Dominic Ball, saying, "We are so thankful for the support from Sandy Secondary School. The funds raised during this event will go a long way in helping us continue providing essential services to those who need it most. It’s inspiring to see young people so engaged and passionate about supporting their community."
