Brummie actress in Hollywood latest project 'Failure To Launch' receives TV Academy Foundation nomination for Best Comedy Series

Actress Alice Amter was born and raised in Birmingham England and is known globally for her iconic role as Mrs Koothrappali in The Big Bang Theory. Her most recent project, the highly anticipated sitcom pilot ‘Failure to Launch’ is the first East Indian family-themed multicam sitcom pilot in the US and has recently garnered a TV Academy Foundation College Award for Best Comedy Series 2025.

Actress Alice Amter born in Birmingham is making strides in Hollywood with latest project, 'Failure To Launch'.

Like The Big Bang Theory, Failure to Launch  is filmed in the traditional multicam sitcom format and the show highlights the experiences of a multi-generational East Indian family navigating the challenges of tradition, culture, and personal ambitions in America. Leading the ensemble cast is Big Bang Theory alum Amter, who brings a strong, relatable comedic presence and witty one-liners as the family matriarch. She shares the screen with Dileep Rao (Avatar) and Jay Mandyam (writer/creator), who portray her two sons. Other cast members include Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Nate Reichert (Sabrina, The Teenage Witch).

Created as a University of Southern California thesis project by an up-and-coming team of international filmmakers, predominantly East Indian, and led by creator and stand-up comedian Jay Mandyam, Failure to Launch delves into themes of family, career, identity, and generational divides. It skillfully balances humor and heart, resonating with audiences of all backgrounds.

Besides generating considerable industry buzz, this prestigious nomination for Best Comedy Series by the TV Academy highlights the pilot's potential to attract interest from TV networks from around the world and major global streaming services for a full-season pick-up.

In response to a question about the show's potential pick up

Amter says: OMG, to be picked up by a network, streamer, or both would be amazing for

everyone involved. And for me, to play this character for the public week after

week for a decade or more would be a personal milestone and a total joy. I think

it would be a commercial and critical success, as already evidenced by this nomination.

The TV Academy Foundation College Awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Television Academy’s North Hollywood campus in Los Angeles.
