“A glass of red wine each day” – 100-year-old Solihull care home resident shares the secret to a long life

A 100-year-old Solihull care home resident has revealed the secret to living a long and happy life, as she celebrated her newly minted centenarian status.

Audrey Owen shares advice to a long life on her 100th birthday

Audrey Owen, who lives at Care UK’s Blossomfield Grange, on Worcester Way, marked her 100th birthday with a party surrounded by her family, fellow residents, and team members.

Audrey, known as Bunty, was born in Liverpool on 5th April 1925 and moved to Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales at just six months old. The youngest of four children, she attended Beaumaris Grammar School during World War II, where she had to practice drills sheltering in the castle tunnels.

After her schooling years, Bunty worked as a receptionist at the local Bulkeley Arms Hotel in Anglesey.

In later years, Bunty met her husband, Len, and they decided to relocate to Solihull in 1947 where they raised four children, Janet, Peter, Vernon and Juliet. Their children later went on to bring four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren into the family, who often visit Bunty at Blossomfield Grange.

Reflecting on her many happy years, Bunty said her secret to a long life was “A glass of red wine every day and the odd glass of sherry!”

To help make Bunty’s birthday one to remember, the Blossomfield Grange team threw her a special party complete with a delicious birthday cake specially made by the home’s talented Head Chef.

Jag Singh, General Manager at Blossomfield Grange, said: “We love to throw a party for special occasions at Blossomfield Grange – and Bunty’s 100th birthday certainly called for a huge celebration!

“It was wonderful to see Bunty surrounded by all her loved ones to mark such an incredible milestone. The team worked tirelessly to make sure her day was one to remember, and we would like to thank everyone who came along to raise a glass to Bunty!”
