The CMPL is made up of a team of dedicated police officers from across the Midlands, who unite each year to compete in a football tournament while supporting their chosen charities, showcasing their commitment to giving back.
Funds raised during the upcoming match will provide essential support for Young Lives Vs Cancer, a charity committed to helping families face the challenges that cancer brings. This match holds special significance as it honours the memory of Daniel Rigley, a brave young boy who faced leukaemia with incredible courage. After battling the disease and defeating it twice, Daniel's life was tragically cut short at just 8 years old. In recognition of his strength, the Daniel Rigley Trophy will be awarded, serving as a lasting tribute to his legacy.
In addition, a charity that is close to every officer, Care of Police Survivors. They provide bereavement support and counselling to families and colleagues of police officers who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. One of which, like many others, was following the death of an officer DC Rob Ling, a true hero who gave his life whilst on duty in order to serve and protect the community.
Organiser, Danny Hitchmough said “I am thrilled to be organising this year's Combined Midland Police League tournament in support of two charities that are very close to my heart.
This tournament is not just an event; it is a way for us to honour the memories of Daniel and Rob while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Our community's involvement is essential in making an impact, and I look forward to a day filled with celebration, compassion and giving”
The event promises to be a family-friendly affair, featuring food stalls, activities for all ages and a raffle to conclude the day. It will serve as a gathering point for bereaved parents who have faced the heart-wrenching loss of young children to cancer, as well as families of police survivors who have put their lives on the line to protect our communities.
“I believe that with the support of our sponsors, volunteers and the community, we can truly make a difference and strengthen our community spirit while raising funds for these crucial charities” said Danny.
The community is invited to attend and show their support for the brave police officers and the families they serve. Gates will open at 11:30 am, with the first match kicking off at 12:30 pm.
