All Shared Ownership homes sold at successful development near Stonehouse

Platform Home Ownership is celebrating a successful collaboration with Vistry after all 27 Shared Ownership homes were sold at a development near Stonehouse.

Platform supported a number of families in securing their dream home.

This partnership with the five-star housebuilder has delivered a mixture of affordable housing solutions through three- and four-bedroom homes in detached and semi-detached styles, with offerings to suit a variety of home seekers.

The Great Oldbury development is ideally-situated just two miles north-west of Stonehouse, with the historic market town of Stroud slightly further afield.

With options for first-time buyers, growing families, young professionals and more, the partnership has allowed buyers to relax in the Gloucestershire countryside, just a stone’s throw from the amenities of larger nearby settlements.

Built to highest possible standard by Vistry, the UK’s leading provider of mixed-tenure homes, this development is part of a thriving new community featuring a purpose-built nursery, pre-school, primary academy, sports pitches and a pavilion.

The high-quality development has allowed Platform to continue its contribution towards meeting the greater need for energy-efficient accessible housing in the region.

Shared Ownership is increasingly becoming a more popular and viable route towards owning a home outright, with Platform seeing a 179% increase in sales throughout this stage of the 2024/25 financial year when comparing to the previous year.

Homeseekers purchase a share of their home and pay rent on the remaining amount, typically buying between 10% and 75% of the property’s full market value, depending on the model purchased with.

This lowers the amount needed for a deposit, with most deposits on Shared Ownership schemes between 5% and 10% of the share and not the full amount.

Through the process of staircasing, those using Shared Ownership can gradually increase the share of their home that they own.

The versatile new homes sit within the corridor of the M5 motorway, making Bristol, South Wales, the West Midlands and the wider South West all easily accessible, while nearby Stroud is known for its popular, award-winning weekly farmers' market, offering a wide range of regional and organic produce.

Regular bus services to Stroud, Gloucester, and beyond make commuting and visiting friends hassle-free, while the extensive road networks provide quick access to major routes across southern England. Stonehouse has a train station and Stroud has two, offering great connectivity for daily journeys and weekend trips.

Surpriya Ray, Regional Managing Director for Vistry Cotswolds, said: “By working in partnership with Platform, we have been able to deliver a significant number of quality Shared Ownership homes. The demand for the homes demonstrates a strong local need for this tenure and we’re pleased to be able to contribute to the local authority’s affordable housing supply.”

Michelle Payne, Sales Consultant for Platform, said: “We have seen an enormous uptick in Shared Ownership demand recently, as the scheme continues to become a more accessible and viable option for many home seekers.

“We’d like to thank Vistry for their commitment, expertise and hard work throughout the development’s lifecycle, with the end result being excellent homes in a perfect location.

“The popularity at Great Oldbury highlights the growing need for affordable housing options for all, as first-time buyers and expanding families strive to enter the property market, where full homeownership may feel unattainable.”

The semi-rural area offers a range of convenient amenities, including supermarkets, a petrol station, pubs, and more. Tesco Superstore is just a mile away, while the popular Gloucester Quays Outlet, featuring a variety of designer and high street stores, is within a short drive.

Stonehouse is an excellent location for families, with local schools catering for children aged between four and 18, with the option of the University of Gloucestershire for young adults. Great Oldbury Primary Academy has received a 'Good' rating by Ofsted, less than ten minutes’ walking distance from the new homes.
