The visit was organised by energy provider, E.ON Next, as part of its Greener Game initiative with The Football Association (The FA) to improve the sustainability credentials of grassroots football clubs.
Asante, with over 70 caps for the England Women’s Team, shared her footballing advice with Staveley Miners Welfare FC’s girls’ team ahead of their European tour this year. Her advice included stressing the importance of working together and remaining positive, with the ultimate goal of enjoying yourself.
The visit was captured on video and is featured on E.ON UK’s and England football’s social channels.
Scott Somerville, E.ON UK’s Director of External Affairs, added: "We’re delighted to be able to create such a special moment for everyone at the club. As part of our partnership with The FA we’re helping grassroots clubs reduce their bills by embracing new energy solutions.
"But it’s also about championing the brilliance of what our clubs give so many of us and ensuring that these vital community institutions can thrive long into the future. We hope Anita’s surprise visit helped to do just that.”
