Eastwood returns to Labour as Juliet Campbell wins Broxtowe seat

Eastwood residents have a Labour MP again after Juliet Campbell won the Broxtowe seat – of which Eastwood is now part.

Juliet Campbell is the new Labour MP for Eastwood after winning the Broxtowe seat.

Ms Campbell polled 19,561 votes to comfortably gain the seat from the Conservatives with a majority of more than 8,000 - overturning a Tory majority from 2019 over almost 5,000.

Former MP Darren Henry took second place for the Tories with 11,158 votes and Reform’s Joseph Oakley finished third in the poll with 8,402 votes.

The turnout for the vote was 66.7 per cent - down from 75 per cent in 2019.

She said: "It will be an absolute privilege to represent you and I will work with everyone to build a better future.”

On her Facebook campaign page, she said: "It is the privilege of my life to be elected to serve as MP for Broxtowe.

"I am committed to being a visible and active MP."

She later added on X that her office at the House of Commons would be up and running in due course.

"The real work for change starts now

Ms Campbell’s win was just one of many on a remarkable night for Labour as they swept back to power with a crushing majority as the Conservative vote collapsed.

Broxtowe has voted alongside the winning party in every election since 1983 and Ms Campbell’s victory continued that trend.

Her win was also one of several in Nottinghamshire were Labour candidates unseated previously sitting Tory MPs.

Michelle Welsh defeated Sir Mark Spencer in Sherwood Forest, Steve Yemm unseated Nottinghamshire Council leader Ben Bradley in Mansfield, Michael Payne regained Gedling from Tom Randall, Jo White unseated Brendan Clarke-Smith in Bassetlaw and James Naish defeated Ruth Edwards to take Rushcliffe.

Outgoing Broxtowe MP Mr Henry, posting on X, said: “I wanted to say what an honour it has been serving Broxtowe.

"It is my home and a truly special place, one I am proud to have worked hard for over the past four years.”
