The closure of the swimming pool at the centre last month led to fears that all the facilities at the venue on the Kimberley School site were going for good.
But TGS says this is not the case and while the pool has sadly gone, fitness fans can sign up now at the gym’s website at tgsgyms.co.uk/kimberley-gym to become a member of the enterprise now in the town.
Keeley Bowker, aged 41, the gym’s owner, said: “The school brought us to Kimberley, a friend of ours told us that the gym here needed some help because the leisure centre was leaving, so we came in to offer them some advice and then said we could take over the gym if they wanted us to and they did, so here we are."
Keeley has been involved in the fitness industry for the past 15 years and she and her husband build gyms around the country as the UK distributors for a brand called Fit Tech.
She continued: “ We had one of our gyms for about five or six years and since then, we’ve opened another four.
"It wasn’t the case here in Kimberley that when the pool closed, all the leisure centre facilities would go but TGS coming to Kimberley was a bit last-minute, it wasn’t that anything was planned.
"We just came in and things moved very quickly which is probably why people weren’t notified as much as they might have been.”
The gym offers the usual equipment, including exercise bikes, weights, cardio and strength workout machines that can ‘work all area of your body.
The gym also offers fitness training and personal programmes and is planning to offer small group sessions in time.
Keeley continued: “We are a private members club where we are not overcrowded so we limit the amount of people in the gym at any one time so people get the best from their workout
"The response we’ve had has been very good, we’ve already sold half our memberships here and a lot of the old members have come back
"A few things have changed – hopefully for the better.
"They can now access the equipment more easily and hopefully pick the best times to train.”
