Huge clash for Eastwood as title rivals come to town

Eastwood CFC host the biggest game in their history on Saturday when title rivals Lincoln United visit for a huge showdown.

Aaron O'Connor was Eastwood's match winner against Newark.

With just three games to go of the UCL Premier North season, Lincoln top the table on 78 points with Eastwood second on 76 and Bourne Town third on 73.

Lincoln have a +41 goal difference with Eastwood on +51 and Bourne on +40.

Last weekend the Red Badgers took all three points on offer with a narrow 1-0 away win at Newark & Sherwood United.

At the same time Lincoln were beating Ashby Ivanhoe 2-1 while Bourne slipped up in a 2-1 loss at Heanor Town.

Bourne, who took on Lincoln in midweek in the Lincolnshire Senior Cup final, host Belper United this weekend.

At Newark & Sherwood, Eastwood captain Aaron O'connor was the match-winning hero with an ice-cool penalty on 20 minutes after the refere spotted a push on Aaron Opoku.

Eastwood had one effort cleared off the line and Tyler Blake had a good shot saved in a largely uneventful first half.

But O'Connor provided the breakthrough and keeper Sam Cummings made a superb save nine minutes from the end to deny Newark an equaliser.

Meanwhile, promising trio Finnley Commons, Alfie Flynn and Toby Woodward, all aged 17, have this week signed deals keeping them at Eastwood until at least 2027.

Eastwood's relegation-haunted neighbours Kimberley MW went down 2-0 at Boston Town and travel to Skegness Town this Saturday still in the bottom two though only two points adrift, albeit with a worse goal difference than third-bottom Gresley Rovers.

Selston remain in big trouble in Division One after they were beaten 2-1 at home by local rivals Clipstone by an agonising 95th-minute goal, having earlier led through Joe Naylor which was wiped out by a penalty before the break.

They are second-bottom, three points from safety with a game in hand and three to play.

The Parishioners face another big derby this weekend when they host Rainworth MW.
