On Thursday 1 May, staff from Mackie’s of Scotland will join representatives from children’s charity, Cash for Kids, to take on an endurance trek from the family-run farm near Rothienorman to Mackie’s 19.2 parlour in Aberdeen’s Marischal Square.
The charity flavour will be revealed on the day, and will be exclusively available at the ice cream parlour in Marischal Square, with proceeds from each scoop going directly to Cash for Kids, which supports children and young people facing poverty, neglect, illness or additional needs.
Yvette Harrison, Parlour Manager at Mackie’s 19.2, said: “Creating this special flavour has added a real sense of occasion to this year’s walk. It’s something tangible that helps tell the story of our partnership and brings a bit of extra fun to the day.
“We’ve had a brilliant time working with Jamie and Megan from Cash for Kids to bring it to life and we’re all looking forward to the first scoops being served when they reach the parlour.”
The route is expected to take around eight hours, covering a mix of country lanes and urban streets, and will contribute more than 40,000 steps to the local goal of one million as part of the charity’s Step Around Scotland campaign.
Jamie Smith, Charity Manager at Cash for Kids, said: “This flavour is a great way to celebrate the campaign and all the people getting involved. It’s also a brilliant example of how community partnerships can be creative, meaningful and a lot of fun.
“We’re hugely grateful to everyone at Mackie’s, and we’d love to see as many people as possible down at the parlour on the afternoon of May 1st to help us mark the occasion.”
Adding an extra flavour of fun, a text raffle will be launched on the day. As the walking team passes through towns and villages, local businesses will be invited to contribute prizes, with entrants encouraged to text to donate for a chance to win.
As the headline sponsor for the charity’s north east campaign, Mackie’s is hoping the limited-edition flavour will encourage people to raise vital funds for children in need.
Cash for Kids supports children and young people who are affected by poverty or face difficult circumstances. The charity provides grants to families, schools and community groups to ensure essentials and vital support services are accessible to those who need them most.
