For 16% of Yorkshire & the Humber residents, Christmas and New Year will involve a getaway. Among those planning to travel, Italy has emerged as the favourite destination, with 15% choosing the land of art, culture, and fine food for their festive escape.

Yorkshire & the Humber residents are proving to be some of the UK’s most organised travellers, typically booking their trips three months in advance. They’re also the region spending the most on Christmas travel, setting aside an average of £1,627—the highest figure across the UK.
Festive generosity doesn’t end with travel plans. From gifts to decorations and Christmas dinner, locals are budgeting an additional £661 on Christmas festivities overall, marking them out as some of the UK’s most dedicated holiday spenders.

For many in Yorkshire & the Humber, travel isn’t just about personal enjoyment—it’s also the perfect present. An impressive 37% are keen to gift a trip or experience this Christmas, with the same percentage agreeing that giving the gift of travel is more meaningful than traditional presents. This shift towards creating memories rather than accumulating material goods reflects changing attitudes to festive gifting.
