Earlier this month the branch held its monthly committee meeting. One of the first orders of the meeting was to elect a new vice-chairman, following the step down of Diane Muncey to allow her to pursue other ventures.
The committee would like to thank Diane for her service during difficult times (COVID/lockdown) and wish her well for the future.
It was unanimously decided by all members that Alan James Dill should be elected as new vice-chairman. Alan thanked the committee for his nomination and duly accepted. This was then approved by branch president; Cllr Mark Freeman and branch chairman; Stuart Clarke.
Alan has been a long serving member of the branch and committee, he is also a committee member for the Bedfordshire County Group of the RBL.
With Remembrance Weekend just two days away, Alan was straight into representing the branch. The next morning Alan was flying to Northern Ireland and to the town of Lurgan. Here he would join family members for the unveiling of a memorial in memory of his great uncle; Field Marshall Sir John Greer Dill GCB CMG DSO. (More about that in the future).
Alan would remain in Lurgan for the remainder of the weekend, representing the branch at a number of Remembrance Services.
Alan is well know in the town of Leighton where he has grown up. A former student of Vandyke Upper School, Alan now works for the long established company of Browns; here in Leighton. After a hectic but enjoyable first weekend in he's new role, Alan was able to celebrate his birthday.......a date he or we are unlikely to forget! 11th November "Armistice Day"
We all look forward to supporting and working alongside Alan as he helps continue the work of the Leighton Buzzard branch of the RBL.
