Creative Wellness was able to celebrate after receiving a grant, which help the charity provide cooking classes to focus on improving community health and wellbeing through various projects and programs.
These sessions bring families together to prepare and enjoy delicious, healthy meals while learning new cooking skills and nutritional information
The charity applied to the Tesco Stronger Starts scheme, which awards grants to charities and community organisations, and were successful in winning £500 to run these cooking classes.
Spokesperson from the charity, Khushnood Ahmed, said: "In Barking and Dagenham, we're cultivating community, friendship, and healthier habits through our free family cooking sessions. Led by expert nutritionist, we offer valuable tips on nutrition, cooking skills, and budgeting, welcoming participants aged 3 and up.
“Thanks to a generous grant from Tesco, we're empowering families to enjoy healthy, budget-friendly meals while strengthening bonds and encouraging children to try new foods. In today's challenging times, these sessions are more vital than ever, offering support and fostering a brighter, healthier future for our community.”
The Stronger Starts scheme, in partnership with the Groundwork charity, aims to support many East London community projects and good causes in the coming years, with thousands of pounds to give away.
Claire De Silva, Head of Community at Tesco, said: “We’re delighted that we can help groups and charities like WFDA. Stronger Starts invites our customers to use their blue tokens to vote for local schemes they feel will benefit children and young people, and it’s so good to see the impact that the funding makes.”
East London shoppers can support their local school and children’s groups by dropping the Tesco blue token they receive at checkout into the relevant voting box as they leave the store.
