Paulette describes the meditative nature of Tai Chi, saying: “Tai Chi is all about very slow, very controlled movement, and I think that’s what I like about it.”
It’s this mindfulness and focus that allows members to unwind and find peace when they practise it.
But it’s not just the Tai Chi movements that make this group special—it’s the community they’ve built within u3a.
Chris reflects on the sense of connection he’s found, explaining: “You do get the feeling of belonging, and it does take away the loneliness. It’s sort of a little family, isn’t it?”
The group learns from YouTube videos, following the practice together, which showcases the unique non-formal learning approach that defines the u3a environment. Members learn with and from each other, making the experience not just about Tai Chi, but about shared knowledge and support.
This film is part of the movement's 'Share Something Brilliant Today' series, which celebrates the spirit of skill sharing across u3a. Other films have highlighted Chichester u3a’s Practical Science group, the u3a Fashion Subject Adviser who helped create Kenilworth u3a’s Fashion group, and Southport u3a’s role in the Southport Flower Show.
