Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds has always channelled raw emotion into his music, but during a deeply personal moment on stage at the Hollywood Bowl, sharing how music became a way to process his struggles with mental health.
“I have struggled so much with just numbness and depression and cloudiness. I wouldn't even call it sadness, just numbness, and music is giving me something that has reminded me to feel.”
Now, standing on stage in 2024, years later, he had one message for the audience - especially for those who, like his younger self, might be struggling.
“If at any time you feel empty, sad, alone, different, that’s great. It’s fantastic. Don’t keep it to yourself. Don’t hold it in. Talk to somebody, talk to your family, talk to a friend. If it’s available to you, go to therapy. I've been in therapy for many years. Therapy does not make you broken. It doesn’t make you weak. It makes you wise. We’re here to learn from each other, to grow together.”
With an emotional performance alongside The LA Film Orchestra, Reynolds continued the show with gratitude - for the fans, his bandmates, and the music that has carried him through.
“Your life is always worth living. That’s it. That’s all we’ve been doing now for all these years, is just writing the same song over and over about just a kid feeling a little sad. And thank you for listening. Thank you for listening for all these years. Thank you for singing with me. Thank you for being with me.”
The two hour show at the Hollywood Bowl included their global hits from “Thunder” to “It’s Time” and “Radioactive”, all backed by 50-piece The LA Film Orchestra.
