Learn new skills, make new friends, and have new adventures in Stratford

Newham teenagers will soon be doing that and more when Boleyn Explorer Scout unit (young people aged 14–18-year-olds) opens in Stratford.

Boleyn Explorer Scouts

The Boleyn Explorers have organised a ‘drop in, find out more, and take part’ evening at Gladstone Hall, Evesham Road, Stratford E15 4AL on Thursday, November 7 from 8pm to 9.30pm. Contact the team at Explorers@bdnscouts.org.uk to find out more, register your interest, or go along on the evening.

The Explorers will take part in activities and adventures, encouraged to ask the bigger questions, think on their feet, be part of a team and always have a plan B up their sleeves.  The young people will plan their own programme with highlights including archery, camping, incident hikes, cooking, achieving their Duke of Edinburgh Awards and lots more.

In a recent poll 94% of Scouts said they had developed useful skills. 88% said they’ve tried activities they haven’t tried before. Scouts offers over two hundred activities from abseiling and coding to drama and water-zorbing.

Dwayne Fields, Chief Scout said: ‘’I’m incredibly pleased that the Boleyn Explorer Scouts are opening in Newham. This means we will now have more young people in the local community making friends, building their confidence, and gaining skills that will prepare them for life and work.

"When I was young, as quite a shy kid, I remember walking into my local Scout meeting place and getting such a warm welcome. I found people who believed in me, and that helped me believe in myself. This set me a path to adventure – taking me to Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands and even the North Pole.

"What made the difference were inspirational volunteers who became role models for me. I’ll also never forget the kindness and friendship of the other Scouts.

"Now I’m so pleased that young people in Newham will get the same chance I did – to discover their talents and find their place in the world.’’

All genders, races, and backgrounds are welcome at Scouts. Every week, it gives young people aged four-25 the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge, and the big dreams: the skills they need for life

The team in Newham have already done so much over the last few years and this amazing success story continues with the opening of the Boleyn Explorer Scout Unit with young people encouraged to try more, see more and do more.
