Kevin is looking for the world’s best DIY-ers to nominate themselves and race against the clock to build everyday furniture with the Grand Designs presenter himself.
Grand Designs Live, sponsored by Daikin, will be holding the live, on-stage competition on its opening day, where participants will showcase their DIY skills and compete to be crowned the first Flatpack World Champion 2025.
The competition will be split into two rounds, bringing eight of the world’s best DIY-ers to the stage. The first round will see two groups of four compete to build their furniture pieces in the fastest time possible, with two from each group progressing to the final. The finalists will then compete again as they challenge for the gold.
With sustainability being a key priority, Grand Designs Live is guaranteeing all built furniture will be donated to ensure every piece has a place to go afterwards.
More than three quarters of Brits would be willing to pay someone else to build their furniture for them, with nearly half admitting to being unable to build flatpack furniture.1
Kevin said: “We’re excited to bring the best-of-the-best Flatpack Olympians together to go head-to-head at this year’s Grand Designs Live. After years with Grand Designs, I:ve seen every DIY trick in the book, and I love to see how everyone goes about their projects.
“We’re expecting to see lots of lost fixtures, confident starts before realising it’s upside down, skipping steps, and that one rogue contestant who doesn’t even read the instructions. But from the sawdust, only one will emerge as the Flatpack Champion of the World. I can’t wait to see who rises to the challenge!”
To enter, competitors must email flatpackolympics@klaxonn.co.uk, explaining why they should be considered for the Flatpack Olympics, or even why they are nominating someone else. Entries will be open from Thursday, April 17 – Thursday, April 24, and the participants that will be taking part will be notified by Friday, April 25.
