The initiative commits Hercules to planting a new tree in the UK for every hire made on a project that Hercules is supporting.
The trees were donated by Hercules’ client Skanska, one of the UK’s leading contractors. Hercules regularly supply labour to projects with Skanska across the UK. Their Social Value Manager hopes to continue using Boots 2 Roots across future community endeavours.
The 20 trees planted at the Winthorpe Community Garden brings the total number of trees planted by Hercules Site Services as part of the initiative to 41, with each tree absorbing approximately 25kg of CO2 per year once fully grown.
Fruit trees, as well as a number of other thriving species were planted at the Community Garden in December 2024, a space which fosters social connections, helps to build skills, and improves mental wellbeing.
Brusk Korkmaz, Chief Executive Officer of Hercules Site Services, said: “We’re committed to being a company that cares for communities and the environment, so we’re pleased to play our part with this fantastic initiative. We hope the community enjoys the trees and the fruit they produce for years to come.”
Fozia Fazil, Social Value Manager at Skanska, said: “The Boots 2 Roots program is an incredible initiative that aligns perfectly with Skanska's values of creating a lasting, positive impact on both the environment and the local community. Planting trees not only enhances the green spaces around us but also fosters a sense of unity and pride among community members. The fresh produce and shade provided will make a tangible difference in the lives of local residents, while also giving them the opportunity to come together, learn new skills, and support each other. It's a wonderful example of how even small actions can lead to meaningful change”.
