Mayor Of Wokingham Borough and local school visit energy efficiency display at Finchwood Park

The Mayor of Wokingham Borough and pupils from Finchampstead C of E Primary School were recently welcomed to an educational exhibition at Finchwood Park in Berkshire, as part of housebuilder David Wilson Homes’ energy efficiency campaign.

As the campaign aims to educate the local community on energy usage in new homes, the display showcased 11 watering cans designed by Arborfield Brownies, to highlight how much water consumption is saved in a new build each week, and educational signage to bring to life features of the homes at the development.

Hosted in one of the recently completed homes at Finchwood Park, the visit saw the Mayor of Wokingham and seven pupils from Year Three and Four, learn about the features installed in the homes and how they help improve efficiency and benefit the environment.

David Wilson Homes use highly thermally efficient insulation and argon-filled double-glazing as standard, which allows the heat from the sun in, whilst minimising heat loss, making its homes 65% more energy efficient than an older home [1].

Cllr Adrian Mather, Mayor of Wokingham Borough, commented: “Finchwood Park is a fantastic example of how housebuilders can prioritise energy efficiency without compromising on quality. The visit demonstrated how sustainable living can benefit both residents and the environment and as Wokingham continues to commit to a greener future, it is great to see housing developments help us work towards our goals.”

Jacquie Vanstone, Headteacher at Finchampstead C of E Primary School, added: “Sustainability is a key part of our curriculum in the classroom, so it was wonderful for the children to see for themselves how environmental considerations are informing housebuilding in our community. The interactive displays allowed the students to develop a better understanding of how we use energy and water in the home, and they thoroughly enjoyed visiting the development.”

Alex Dowling, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt David Wilson Southern Counties, commented: “David Wilson Homes is committed to building warm and efficient homes for our residents and the visit was a great opportunity for us to show how the new features in our homes make this possible. We are looking forward to hosting an energy efficiency open day on the 5th April for the local community to come and find out more about the homes.”
