The charity, which supports people with learning disabilities, autistic people, and physical and mental health needs, received the grant following a nomination from renowned photographer Christie Goodwin, whose son is someone who Active Prospects support, during Christie's jury presidency of the CEWE Photo Award.
Active Prospects will use the significant sum to fund the 'Creative Moments' project, which will provide supported photography opportunities for people the charity supports to get out into nature to create and photograph lasting memories. The initiative will culminate in an Active Prospects photo competition, with carers, people they support, and their family members invited to submit their photographs. The winners will be announced at their annual Star Awards with the best images being exhibited at Active Prospects' properties.
Celebrating the donation, CEWE recently hosted an event in Redhill for Active Prospects, which saw attendees take part in a photography workshop and take home their finished photography shots from a pop-up CEWE Photostation.
Throughout the workshop, participants had the opportunity to receive one-on-one advice and insight from Christie Goodwin and CEWE’s Head of Photo Culture and Quality, Dale Orton, alongside the opportunity to capture and print their own photography.
Petra Felgen, Managing Director at CEWE UK, said: “Our international photo competition, CEWE Photo Award, not only provides opportunities for photography lovers to be involved with a global contest and win a range of prizes, but it also gives us a great opportunity to give back to local communities and charities.
“Active Prospects was selected to receive a donation from CEWE by Christie Goodwin as it is a charity that is close to her heart, and we’re honoured to support its inspiring work with a significant donation and unique event for the people it supports.”
Christie Goodwin, professional photographer and president juror of the CEWE Photo Award, commented: “As part of my jury presidency for the CEWE Photo Award, I’m delighted to have selected Active Prospects to receive a donation from CEWE.
“The charity is close to my heart and provides valuable services to the people they support, including my son Charlie, so we hope that the donation will be beneficial and will help the charity to encourage creativity and photography as a means of wellness.”
Maria Mills, CEO of Active Prospects, added: “I want to extend our gratitude to CEWE for its generous donation. The support is very much appreciated and will go towards our ‘Creative Moments’ project that will directly benefit a number of the people we support as we strive to help more people to live full and aspiring lives."
