New energy-efficient Staindrop development opens marketing suite – 25% of homes already reserved

North East housebuilder Homes by Carlton is kicking off 2025 in style, as the marketing suite for its new energy-efficient development in Staindrop opens.

A quarter of the homes at the 48-unit development have already been reserved off-plan, with 14 plots now formally released for sale. The first new homeowners are expected to move in this summer.

With a mission to build homes for sustainable living, all properties on the Woodberry Park development will have solar panels, EV chargers, and enhanced insulation to ensure they maximise energy efficiency whilst having minimal carbon footprint on the environment.

Woodberry Park, in Staindrop, located between Barnard Castle and Darlington, is the fourth development from Homes by Carlton that has solar panels included as standard on some or all plots. In the UK, around 1.4 million homes have solar panels – with electricity generated by the Solar Energy market expected to reach 14.43bn kWh this year.

Simon Walker, Managing Director at Homes by Carlton, said: “Woodberry Park is an exciting new community for people looking to live in a more energy-efficient way. Whilst EV points are now becoming standard on new homes, we believe in maximising a property's sustainability. The introduction of solar panels as a standard feature at Woodberry Park moves the dial in developing homes today for Durham’s long-term sustainable future.”

New build homes are increasingly more energy efficient. In the second quarter of 2024, 87% of new homes in England received an A or B Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating – whilst less than 5% of existing older properties achieve the same EPC rating. All homes at the Woodberry Park development will have an EPC rating of A or B.

Government data also reveals that newly built homes emit 65% less carbon, 1.22 tonnes per year, than an average older property – which emits an average of 3.51 tonnes per year. The newly built Woodberry Park development saves the equivalent amount of greenhouse gases every year that would be produced from driving 931,103 miles in a petrol car, in addition to the eco-benefits from solar panels, EV charging points and insulation.

Laura Jane Barnes-Martin-Foster, Sales Manager at Homes by Carlton, added: “I am very excited to officially open the Marketing Suite for Woodberry Park today. It is in a much sought-after location and the homes at this development have been thoughtfully designed to compliment the beautiful local area, all of which is reflected in the amount of interest we have already received.”

“There is an ever-growing interest in purchasing a newly built property. Aside from reduced energy bills and the ease of moving into a freshly decorated home, property owners are very savvy when looking at its long-term return on investment. A new build with solar panels and an EV charger is at the top of many peoples' wish list. Newly built homes are increasingly more energy efficient – which helps the environment and reduces household energy costs.”

The Woodberry Park Marketing Suite is open by appointment at Woodberry Park, off Sudburn Avenue, Staindrop, County Durham, DL2 3XD. To book an appointment, call 0333 041 3377.
